Police investigating homicide in Glenmont neighborhood

Police are searching for suspects after a deadly shooting in a Glenmont, Maryland, residential neighborhood early Tuesday morning. Montgomery County police received a call for shots fired in the Glenmont Circle area, near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Randolph Road, just after 7 a.m. Tuesday. Officers responding found one person suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim died at the scene from their injuries, Montgomery County Police Department spokesman Tom Jordon said. WTOP’s Nick Iannelli observed police activity centered around the Glenmont Forest Apartments building just south of Randolph Road:

Two suspects in the homicide, one of whom police described as an adult Hispanic male, were seen leaving the area in the direction of nearby Wheaton Regional Park. Law enforcement established a search perimeter, mobilizing K-9 units and a police helicopter from neighboring Fairfax County, Virginia, to aid in finding the suspects. County emergency managers sent a shelter-in-place advisory to some residents, Jordon said. That order was lifted after police determined the suspects had moved out of the area. A tweet from the Montgomery County Police Department had advised those in the vicinity to avoid the area if possible and to expect a heavy police presence. Detectives remained on scene late Tuesday morning interviewing witnesses and determining the circumstances that led to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 301-279-8000.
