New food hall and market coming to Montgomery County

Silver Spring is the latest neighborhood to have a food hall on the drawing board, with a 15,000-square-foot hall and market planned for the new Solaire 8200 Dixon apartment building at 8200 Dixon Ave.

Developer Washington Property Co. has hired Colicchio Consulting, a food hall consulting firm, to help design the venue, identify an operator and provide input on the mix of vendors, according to a statement from WPC.

Colicchio Consulting is headed by Phil Colicchio — no relation to superstar chef Tom Colicchio — and Trip Schneck. The firm, which is working on food halls at Auburn University and at the Rock Row Project in Portland, Maine, among others, was acquired by Cushman & Wakefield in December 2018.

The Silver Spring project is being billed as a food hall and market because it will include both food and beverage vendors and retailers selling nonfood items, according to a spokesperson.

Trump Hotel files layoff notices for D.C. property

The Trump International Hotel in downtown D.C. has filed a layoff notice affecting 237 employees. The notice was filed with the District’s Department of Employment Services on April 3 and took effect the same day, but it only appeared on the Department’s public website of Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notices Wednesday.
