FreshFarm and Community Foodworks, the operators a large portion of D.C.-area farmers markets, are combining into one entity under the FreshFarm name, the companies said Tuesday.

The new nonprofit will be led by Executive Director Hugo Mogollon, who previously served as executive director of Community Foodworks. Together, the nonprofits operate 33 farmers markets in D.C., suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia, including large, longstanding markets in Dupont Circle and Arlington and upstarts such as those in the the Mosaic District and Brookland. Community FoodWorks also has two farm stands in underserved communities, one at Mary’s Center in Fort Totten and another at Cesar Chavez High in Kenilworth.

The merger will make FreshFarm the largest operator of farmers markets in the Mid-Atlantic, and the third largest operator in the country, according to a press release. The combined entity will have 60 employees and a roster of 240 farmers and vendors who earn $15 million in annual revenue…
