A 3-year-old girl is recovering Wednesday afternoon after falling from the ninth floor of a Silver Spring, Maryland, apartment building.

Just before 1 p.m., the child fell at the Chateau, at 9727 Mount Pisgah Road. The call was for a fall from a balcony, but medics believe it was actually from a window, Montgomery County Fire and EMS spokesman Pete Piringer said.

The toddler likely landed on some bushes and mulch, and first responders found the child alert in the lobby with minor “traumatic” injuries that that were not life-threatening, Piringer said.

It was classified a trauma because of the nature of the incident; but there were no obvious serious injuries, no deformities or serious bleeding, and the child was taken to the hospital in stable condition, he said.

She was believed to be with other siblings and a caregiver. There is no word as to what led to the child’s fall.

Below is a map of the area where the child fell.
