Pedestrian in Montgomery Co. struck by police cruiser

WASHINGTON — A man is in critical condition after being hit by a police car Thursday night in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Around 9:30 p.m., an officer driving a marked cruiser on Georgia and Arcola avenues hit a man who was walking in the road, Montgomery County police said. It was not far from the Westfield mall in Wheaton.

The officer was not responding to an emergency and did not have their emergency lights on at the time of the incident.

The collision happened in an area without any crosswalks.

The man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officials began an investigation into the incident, but it was not immediately clear how the crash happened.
