UPDATE, 7/27/2018, 2 a.m.: The Humane Rescue Alliance said that the reptile was a caiman, not an alligator as earlier reported. A caiman is a reptile similar to an alligator.

WASHINGTON — Sure, Washington gets called a swamp all the time, but this is a bit much.
D.C. police say they ran into a 4-foot alligator while on patrol Wednesday night.
Officers from the 7th District “apprehended” the rascally reptile while searching a house in the 3500 block of Brothers Place in Southeast.
They say Animal Control will be working to relocate el lagarto to a safe habitat.
They are also trying to remind people of the obvious: Don’t keep alligators as pets.
