WASHINGTON — A woman is in the hospital after being shot by a man she met through a social media app in Takoma Park, Maryland, police say.

It happened at around 8 p.m. Thursday in the 8300 block of Flower Avenue.

Police say an altercation occurred and the man shot the woman.

The victim was awake and alert when she was transported to the hospital. She is expected to be OK.

Police are searching for the suspect, which they described as a black man with a thin build and short hair. The suspect is about 5 feet, 5 inches tall. He was last seen wearing glasses, a white tank top and dark blue shorts. He was armed with a black and silver handgun.
