Police identify woman killed in Silver Spring crash

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A woman is dead after she was struck by a car late Thursday night in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Montgomery County police have identified the victim as Channea Sreng, 37, Silver Spring.

Sreng was crossing the northbound lanes of New Hampshire Avenue at Oakview Drive around 11:20 p.m. when she was struck by a white 2005 Ford Mustang. She died on the scene.

The driver, Hafiz Ajaga Usongo Mbang, 22, of White Oak, remained on the scene.

Police have not announced charges in the crash and have yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved, whether speed was an issue or whether the victim was crossing against a red light.

The intersection of the incident is the last light and intersection before the Capital Beltway when traveling northbound.
