Washington Nationals acquire Royals’ Kelvin Herrera

WASHINGTON — The Washington Nationals have exchanged three Minor League prospects for Kelvin Herrera from the Kansas City Royals.

National President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement Monday.

The three prospects include infielder Kelvin Gutierrez, Minor League outfielder Blake Perkins and Minor League right-handed pitcher Yohanse Morel.

Herrera, 28, is a two-time All-Star and World Series champion. In 27 appearances this season, Herrera has an ERA of 1.05 and 14 saves.

He is a native of Tenares, Dominican Republic, and he was signed by the Royals as a non-drafted free agent in 2006.
