WASHINGTON — Oren Dorell, a foreign affairs reporter for USA Today, was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Northeast D.C. on Friday night.

In a news release, D.C. police said Dorell was killed when the motorcycle he was driving was hit by a Toyota Camry in the 1100 block of H Street Northeast around 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Dorell was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said their investigation revealed the driver of the Toyota Camry was driving under the influence. The driver, 47-year-old Daryl Grant Alexander of Southeast D.C., was arrested and charged with second degree murder, driving under the influence and leaving after colliding. Dorell was 53. USA Today said he spent 13 years with the paper, covering historic events from the Arab Spring to natural disasters. He leaves behind a wife and two sons.
