United adds flights to Greenbrier from Dulles, Chicago

WASHINGTON — United Airlines will begin service to Greenbrier Valley Airport from Dulles International Airport beginning April 26.

The flights will be operated by SkyWest Airlines on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays from April 26 through October 26.

United started nonstop service from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport to the West Virginia resort town April 3.

The Dulles flights will depart at 8:25 a.m. and arrive at Greenbrier Valley Airport at 9:40 a.m. The return flights departs Greenbrier Valley Airport at 10 a.m. and arrive at Dulles at 11:07 a.m.

The Greenbrier Valley Airport is a few minutes from the resort itself, and the resort is providing shuttle service to and from.

United’s website Monday displayed a round-trip fare departing Dulles on April 26 at $240.

The Greenbrier, in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, is about 250 miles from D.C. and roughly a four-hour drive via Interstates 66 and 81.

The Greenbrier, which first opened in 1778, was acquired by West Virginia Governor and businessman Jim Justice in 2009, after the resort’s owner, Greenbrier Hotel Corp., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, citing the weak economy and its toll on luxury travel.

Justice has since invested heavily in property improvements and renovations.

The Greenbrier is a national historic landmark. It sits on 6,500 acres in the Allegheny Mountains, and has hosted presidents, movie stars and royalty.
