1 killed, 2 hurt in Howard Co. crash

WASHINGTON — One person was killed and two were hurt in a crash in Howard County Saturday.

It happened after 2 p.m. on U.S. Route 1 south of Brumbaugh Street. Howard County police said that a Fiat pulled out onto the southbound lanes while attempting to make a left turn onto northbound Route 1 when a Dodge Ram traveling southbound struck it.

William John McNamara, 55, of Elkridge, was the driver of the Fiat. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The passenger of the car, identified as 54-year-old Karen McNamara, has critical injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Ram is 24-year-old Simone Alicia Cools-Lartigues, of Columbia. Police said that she is in stable condition.

Police said that the Fiat failed to yield right of way to the Dodge. The investigation is ongoing.
