Sure sign of spring: Nats are back and so are the traffic impacts

WASHINGTON — There may still be a chill in the air, but two sure signs of spring emerge Tuesday afternoon along the Anacostia River: a Washington Nationals home game, and the potential traffic problems that go with it.

Tuesday’s 4:05 p.m. game against the Minnesota Twins is still a spring training exhibition game, but serves as a reminder to commuters along roads such as South Capitol Street, Interstate/D.C. 295 and Suitland Parkway that it is the time of year when checking sports on WTOP at: 15 and: 45 can be as important to planning the trip home as listening to traffic and weather on the 8s.

Loudoun County Transit warned commuter bus riders Monday that delays are likely Tuesday afternoon, particularly for buses with stops at Navy Yard and Waterfront.

The Nationals’ regular-season home opener is still more than a week away; the Nats host the New York Mets at 1:05 p.m. April 5, as part of a 10-game homestand.

The team opens the regular season on the road in Cincinnati March 29.

DC grabs ‘Dave Thomas Circle’ through eminent domain

In the pantheon of confusing and dangerous D.C. intersections, "Dave Thomas Circle" in Northeast certainly ranks high. But, perhaps, not for long. Mayor Muriel Bowser's office late Monday said that the District acquired the Wendy's-centric intersection of New York Avenue NE, Florida Avenue NE and First Street NE through eminent domain.
