4 DC chefs make nominee list for 2018 James Beard Awards

WASHINGTON Washingtonians know it, and now the rest of the country does too: D.C. is home to some pretty amazing chefs.

On March 14, the James Beard Foundation announced the 2018 nominees for the James Beard Awards, and four D.C. chefs made the cut.

Kevin Tien, of Himitsu, is nominated in the category for Rising Star Chef of the Year.

Amy Brandwein (Centrolina), Tom Cunanan (Bad Saint) and Jeremiah Langhorne (The Dabney) are all in the running for Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic. They are up against two other chefs, including Cindy Wolf of Charleston in Baltimore, and Rich Landau of Vedge in Philadelphia.

While the District dominates the category for Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic, representation is absent from many categories, including Best New Restaurant, Outstanding Baker, Outstanding Bar Program and Outstanding Chef.

The winners will be announced on May 7 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
