Beltway lane closures begin next week for nighttime bridge work

WASHINGTON — Expect lane closures on the Capital Beltway next week, as Maryland road crews begin setting steel for the Seminary Road Bridge.

Closures in both directions are planned on Interstate 495 between Georgia Avenue (Maryland Route 97) and Connecticut Avenue (Maryland Route 185).

Workers for the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin with single lane closures Tuesday at 9 p.m., then double-lane closures at 10 p.m. and brief total stoppages at 11 p.m.

All lanes will reopen after each night of work by 5 a.m. (No work will be performed on Friday or Saturday nights.)

According to MDOT, the steel beam setting should be complete by the end of the month, weather permitting.

Drivers are advised to stay alert and follow reduced speed limits in the work zone.
