George Washington University Hospital briefly locked down when gunshot victim walks in

WASHINGTON — George Washington University Hospital went into lockdown for a brief period of time Tuesday night when a gunshot victim walked into the emergency room, which caused a search of the immediate area for the shooter.

The victim was conscious and breathing when he entered, NBC Washington reports.

Police cordoned off the 900 block of 23rd Street NW between Washington Circle and I Street NW.

A hospital spokesperson said the victim was shot on the street near the Foggy Bottom Metro Station and the entrance to the hospital.

Police believe the shooting was the result of a personal dispute and not random.

The victim has not been identified.
