Police identify 18-year-old killed in apparent shooting in Silver Spring

WASHINGTON — Police have identified the teen victim who has died from multiple gunshot wounds on Christmas Eve in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The 18-year-old victim has been identified as Jose Herrera of Silver Spring, Montgomery County police said Tuesday. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled his death a homicide by multiple gunshot wounds.

The killing happened in the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace, near the intersection of Piney Branch Road and Carroll Avenue in Silver Spring.

Police responded to a report of an assault and sounds of gunshots around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. They found Herrera dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Police have not found any suspects.
