Rockville man on motor scooter dies after car crash

WASHINGTON — A man who was operating a motor scooter died after a crash involving a car in Rockville, Maryland, on Saturday night. The driver of the car was arrested for driving under the influence.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Rockville Pike and Congressional Lane, Montgomery County police said.

The driver of the moped, Ross Stanley Redler, 56, was traveling south on Rockville Pike toward Congressional Lane. At the same time, a BMW was turning left onto Congressional Lane from Rockville Pike. The vehicles crashed for reasons still under investigation, police said.

After the crash, the driver of the BMW, 24-year-old Mark Steven Andrade, began fleeing the scene on foot.

Officers located him and arrested him for driving under the influence.

Redler died in a hospital later on.

The investigation is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information to call 240-773-6620.
