Son, mother dead in apparent Silver Spring murder-suicide

WASHINGTON — A 61-year-old man killed his 88-year-old mother in her Silver Spring, Maryland, apartment and turned the gun on himself Wednesday night, the Montgomery County police said.

The police said Garvey Dyer, 61, of Bethesda, went to the home of his mother, Rose Dyer, 88, at 1400 Fenwick Lane in Silver Spring Wednesday night and shot her, then himself.

A members of the family called the police from the apartment, the police said. They responded at about 8:45 p.m. and found the body of Garvey Dyer first, then his mother.

Garvey Dyer had no criminal record. The police are still investigating, and ask anyone with more information to call them at 240-773-5050. You don’t have to give your name.
