WASHINGTON — A Maryland doctor was indicted on federal charges after prosecutors said that he wrote prescriptions illegally at Hooters restaurants.

William “Skip” Vaughn, 62, of Largo, was charged with 66 counts of distribution and dispensation, as well as other federal charges.

Vaughn worked as a doctor at an urgent care center in Potomac, but wrote prescriptions without legitimate medical reason for months between January 2014 and June 2017, prosecutors said.

Some of those were Adderall prescriptions for multiple waitresses who worked at Hooters locations in Rockville and Laurel, prosecutors said.

Vaughn’s medical license lapsed and the urgent care center he worked for is no longer in business. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
