1 shot in officer-involved shooting in Silver Spring

WASHINGTON — One person is shot and in serious condition, after police responded to an assault in Silver Spring.

Emergency services received a call Saturday around 8:20 p.m. The caller said that an unknown SUV was ramming the vehicle that he was in.

Police arrived at the Stoneymill Shopping center on Veirs Mill Road.  An officer fired his gun at the SUV’s driver-side window, striking the SUV driver. Police began lifesaving measures and the driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital. The caller was not hurt.

The officer is 10-year veteran of Montgomery County police and, following protocol, is on paid administrative leave during the investigation, police statement said.
