Blind Arlington triplets gain Eagle Scout rank

WASHINGTON — Blind triplets from Arlington, Virginia achieved the highest ranking in the Boy Scouts of America.

Eighteen-year-old Leo, Nick and Steven Cantos joined a select few Wednesday night when they became Eagle Scouts. They were joined by friends, family, fellow scouts and U.S. Secretary of Labor R. Alexander Acosta, NBC Washington reported.

Nick told NBC Washington that his adoptive father, Ollie Cantos, helped him to keep going when he was scared. Ollie and the triplets were born with retinopathy of prematurity, a People magazine article reported.

In November 2015, after having known them since they were 11 years old, Ollie was granted joint legal custody of the boys, which he shares with their mother Ceila, according to The Washingtonian.
