Suspect in fatal Georgetown shooting arrested in West Virginia

WASHINTGON – A man accused of fatally shooting a 19-year-old in Georgetown in July has been taken into custody in West Virginia.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Terry Moore told WTOP that 24-year-old Demarius Anton Jackson was arrested Tuesday in Morgantown.

Moore says investigators honed in on that region after the Marshals’ Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force received a tip that Jackson was in the area.

Jackson was spotted on foot and was arrested without incident.

Jackson is accused of shooting and killing Kennedy Javier Amaya-Olivares in the 3500 block of Water Street in D.C. in the early morning hours of July 8.

Last month, D.C. Police appealed to the public for help tracking down Jackson, who was wanted for second degree murder while armed and was considered armed and dangerous.

Moore says Jackson made a court appearance in West Virginia on Tuesday, and is awaiting transfer back to D.C.
