Scalise returns to ICU due to infection concerns; condition serious

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise has been readmitted to an intensive care unit “due to new concerns for infection,” according to officials at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The House majority whip’s condition Wednesday evening was listed as serious. Scalise, 51, was critically wounded in the June 14 shooting at an Alexandria baseball field that wounded three others. The shooter, 66-year-old James Hodgkinson, was fatally shot by police. The congressman was struck in the hip, and the bullet tore into blood vessels, bones and internal organs.
