2-year-old drowns in Montgomery Village

WASHINGTON — A two-year-old boy drowned in a lake in Montgomery County, Maryland, Friday, officials said. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue received a call to the area of Montgomery Village Avenue and Lakeshore Drive in Gaithersburg, around 7:30 p.m. Friday for a possible drowning. “A young child, a toddler, had been pulled from the water,” said Pete Piringer, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. “Police were first to begin resuscitation efforts that were transferred over to arriving medics.” Piringer said the child had been near a park area with family presumably near Lake Whetstone before being reported missing. The child was transported to a local hospital with life threatening conditions, he said. The child died at the hospital, Montgomery County police spokesman Paul Starks said.
