WASHINGTON — A registered sex offender in Virginia is back behind bars after police said he tried to abduct a woman walking in his neighborhood.

Prince William County police have charged Keith Richard Griffin, 43, in the attempted abduction of a woman Saturday morning, according to Officer Alex Eguino.

Around 5:10 a.m., the 33-year old woman reported to police that a man she didn’t know approached her and tried to grab and pull her away at the corner of Castile Court and Oakwood Drive in Woodbridge, Virginia. She broke free and told officers the man ran away.

Hours later, detectives from the Special Victims Unit were able to track down and arrest Griffin by using K9s and talking to neighbors, police said. Officers also conducted a search of his home on Castile Court.

Court records show Griffin pleaded guilty to a felony charge of aggravated sexual battery in 2002 and was ordered by the court to register as a sex offender.

He is being held without bond on charges of attempted abduction and malicious wounding, police said.

His court date is scheduled for July 11.
