WASHINGTON — Los Angeles-based Hammer & Nails, a men’s grooming salon that describes itself as man cave nirvana, has signed its first franchise agreement in the Mid-Atlantic and says it will have 10 locations in Maryland within the next three years.

The first lease for Hammer & Nails is being negotiated at Metro Centre in Owings Mills, with others planned in the Bethesda/Chevy Chase, Wheaton/Silver Spring and Rockville/Potomac areas. National Harbor and Bowie are also on the expansion list, as are Baltimore’s Fells Point, Annapolis, Arundel Mills and Columbia, Maryland.

The first, and only, corporate-owned Hammer & Nails location opened in 2013 on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. Its first five franchise locations will open by the end of summer, in Maryland, Texas and California.

Hammer & Nails says its locations feature a low-lit luxurious atmosphere with dark wood and steel detailing, oversized Bison leather chairs, personal TVs, noise canceling headphones and free beverages.

Services include manicures and pedicures, including soaks and scrubs in whiskey and beer concoctions, haircuts and shaves.

Its founder, Michael Elliot, appeared by ABC’s Shark Tank in 2014, though he did not get a deal.

Elliott says he has more than 200 licensing deals already and aims for 250 locations open by 2022.
