WASHINGTON — Fairfax County police are canvassing an area popular with the Vietnamese community in Springfield, Virginia, as part of the investigation into a senior’s killing.

Fairfax County officers are talking with members of Vietnamese community to learn more about who may have killed Cong Huu Nguyen.

Last week, officers found the 77-year-old with upper body trauma in his apartment at the Little River Glen Senior Retirement Community.

“We have developed information that Mr. Nguyen frequented the Eden Center,” said Officer Megan Hawkins, referring to a popular shopping hub in Falls Church. “So our officers … are out there handing out canvass fliers.”

The fliers are printed in both Vietnamese and English.

“We have an employee with the Fairfax County Police department that is fluent in Vietnamese and is going out there to speak with the public to assist us in gaining information,” she said.

It is not yet clear if someone forced entry into Nguyen’s apartment, Fairfax County police spokesman Don Gotthardt said April 20 shortly after Nguyen was discovered.

“We have to classify it or characterize as a threat to public safety at this point because we don’t know any different,” Gotthardt said.
