WASHINGTON — A report of Loudoun County school students sharing drinks that may have contained Xanax has prompted an investigation by the sheriff’s office.

The county sheriff’s office said seven students at River Bend Middle School were seen by the school nurse after possibly sharing drinks containing Alprazolam.

Alprazolam, also known as Xanax, is often used to treat anxiety and panic.

Authorities said all seven students were ultimately sent home with parents.

They are trying to determine where the reported drug was obtained, and whether the students knew of the contents of the drinks.

The investigation is also examining possible connections to a recent incident at Potomac Falls High School, in which two students were found to have a possible Xanax mix.
