Falling tree kills 2-year-old, injures 5-year-old brother in Md.

WASHINGTON — A 2-year-old boy was killed and his 5-year-old brother was seriously injured after a tree fell on them Thursday evening in La Plata, Maryland, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened shortly after 6 p.m. at a home in the 8900 block of Turkey Hill Road. The boys’ father had been cutting the tree down in their backyard.

The children were reportedly about 50 feet away from their father when it fell.

They were flown to a hospital where the 2-year-old was pronounced dead.

Dad, daughters die, wife injured in shooting at Charles Co. home

WALDORF, Md. — A Charles County man found dead inside his Waldorf home is the suspected gunman in a shooting Thursday night that took the lives of his two daughters and left his wife in serious condition. Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at a town house in the 3300 block of Westdale Court after 8 p.m. to find a 36-year-old woman outside begging for help.
