WASHINGTON — Virginia’s largest public university is set to ink an expanded deal Tuesday with the state’s largest two-year college aiming to make transfers between the two schools “seamless.”

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is set to announce the expanded partnership between George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College Tuesday afternoon. McAuliffe will be joined by George Mason President Ángel Cabrera and NOVA President Scott Ralls.

Under the partnership, the schools will work together to develop the curriculum for specific programs and pool together advisers to better help guide students who transfer, according to a report in The Washington Post.

The schools already offer dual enrollment in the mechanical engineering program, according to the Post. The expanded partnership brings that “compact” model to more majors.

A recent study found that just 42 percent of community college students who transferred earned a bachelor’s degree within six years of starting school, the Post reported.
