Local station comes out on top for revenue across U.S. radio industry. Again.

WTOP-FM is once again the top revenue-generating radio station in the country, according to data from Chantilly-based consulting firm BIA/Kelsey.

The D.C.-based all-news radio station, owned by St. Paul, Minnesota-based Hubbard Broadcasting, took in $67.5 million in advertising revenue in 2016. It saw a slight jump from 2015 revenue, reported at $65 million, even as the overall industry saw ad revenue stay flat around $14.1 billion, according to the 2017 Investing in Radio Market Report. National online revenue increased 14 percent.

WTOP also held the title of highest-grossing radio station in the U.S. in 2015, as well as for four consecutive years before its streak was interrupted by iHeart CHR KIIS-FM Los Angeles in 2014.
