WASHINGTON — A malfunctioning stop light that created significant delays Tuesday morning on Indian Head Highway near National Harbor has been repaired and should not cause similar backups for the afternoon commute, Maryland’s State Highway Administration said.

The traffic signal at Indian Head Highway and Wilson Bridge Drive was not cycling properly during the morning commute.

A technician was able to fix it later in the morning, state highway spokesman Charlie Gischlar said.

The problem with the traffic light might have been tied to overnight thunderstorms. Such storms can cause issues for some of the electronics that control the traffic light cycles.

Gischlar urged drivers who notice problems with traffic lights to contact the agency responsible for the road so that the issue can be fixed.
