WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Brandon Snyder is hoping to play for his second hometown team.

The Westfield High School (Centerville, Va.) grad in is trying to earn a spot on the Nationals’ roster this season as a non-roster invitee in camp. Snyder, an All-Met selection, was a first-round pick by the Orioles in 2005 as a catcher and third baseman.

He made his Major League debut in 2010, but played in just 10 games that year with the O’s and six more the following season. After that, he went on to play 40-games with the Rangers in 2012 and then 27 with the Red Sox in ’13.

Snyder returned to the majors last season with the Braves and was signed by the Nationals last November, just before his 30th birthday.

Now in West Palm Beach, Florida, Snyder is battling Michael A. Taylor, Clint Robinson, Wilmer Difo and Brian Goodwin for the final bench spot with the Nationals. He feels good about his play this spring, where he’s batted .350 with four RBI in 13 games heading into the weekend.
