How to save $8.62 on your Amazon order

WASHINGTON — The giant online retailer Amazon is offering a $8.62 discount on some purchases — Wednesday only.

You have to spend at least $50 to be eligible for the savings and use the promo code BIGTHANKS during checkout.[related_gallery align=”right”]

In an email to customers, Amazon said the discount is a way to thank customers after it ranked as the company with the best corporate reputation in a new Harris poll.

So, why $8.62?

Amazon’s “reputation quotient” hit 86.27 — a record high in the survey, which has been published annually since 1999. The survey measures attitudes about companies based on their perceived social responsibility, emotional appeal, vision and leadership, and financial performance, among other factors.

Amazon has ranked in the top 10 for the past nine years. Wegmans, Publix Super Markets, Johnson & Johnson, and Apple rounded out the top five.
