1 boy dead, 4 adults in hospital after Fairfax Co. house fire

WASHINGTON — A young boy is dead and four adults are in the hospital after a house fire in Lorton, Virginia, on Tuesday evening, Fairfax County police said.

According to police, the fire happened in the garage of a house in the 8100 block of Arcade Street at around 5:15 p.m. After putting out the flames, firefighters found a boy inside, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Battalion Chief Willie Bailey said. Two pets were also found dead inside.

A woman and three men have been taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two dogs were also rescued.

A retired firefighter and an off-duty firefighter who lived in the area attempted to enter the house to make a rescue but the smoke pushed them out, Bailey said. They were also transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
