With online scheduling, D.C. aims to make smooth the building permit process

The District is making a push to simplify the process for contractors, builders and others seeking building permits and licenses.

The Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs announced this week the launch of “Safe and Simple,” an online appointment scheduling program for the agency’s permit and licensing centers and permit-based inspections.

DCRA issues upward of 53,000 permits a year.

“We know that people want more predictability and shorter wait times from DCRA, and these new services will provide both,” Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a release. “Going forward, we will continue making DCRA an agency that works better for everyone.”

Customers can now make an online appointment with the Permit and Licensing Centers, reducing wait times when they arrive at the agency in person. Online appointments are available for assistance with permitting, licensing, and records requests, including with the Office of the Surveyor.
