Wendys Co (WEN) Gets Sassy With Twitter Users

Scroll through the replies on the Wendys Co (ticker: WEN) Twitter feed and you’ll find a plethora of brassy retorts to users. But one Twitter user had trouble taking what he was dishing out.

The user with the Twitter handle @NHride questioned the nature of Wendy’s frozen beef after the company tweeted a seemingly unsuspecting pun: “Our beef is way too cool to ever be frozen.”

@NHride tweeted, “your beef is frozen and we all know it. Y’all know we laugh at your slogan ‘fresh, never frozen’ right? Like you’re really a joke.”

But oh, how the conversation did not end there. The real kicker came from Wendy’s retort when @NHride brought up McDonald’s Corp. (MCD): “@NHride You don’t have to bring them into this just because you forgot refrigerators existed for a second there.” @NHride’s Twitter account and Wendy’s tweets were seemingly deleted at one point, according to AdWeek, though they were back up as of Wednesday morning.

The company eventually acknowledged that it can’t promise never-frozen beef in Hawaii restaurants, though the state was never mentioned in its original tweet.

Cultivating a brand voice on social media is an art that can lead to controversy — think Cinnabon’s recent Carrie Fisher debacle or Cheerios’ (GIS) Prince tweet. So far, though, it doesn’t look like Wendy’s wants to hold back the sass anytime soon:
