RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A recovery center designed to help low-income women struggling with addiction may be coming to South Richmond.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that CARITAS wants to open a women’s recovery center in a warehouse that was used by Philip Morris.

The center would be called the Women’s Healing Place. CARITAS says it would have no more than 200 beds.

The group also wants to develop affordable housing units, a laundromat and an emergency shelter for homeless women.

CARITAS has run a recovery center for men called the Healing Place since 2004.

CARITAS Chief Executive Karen Stanley says the Healing Place is at-capacity and regularly refers women who need help to out-of-state programs.

Richmond’s planning commission will consider the proposal in January.
