Expansion of bike sharing recommended for Md. county

WASHINGTON — Bike sharing is set to arrive in another part of the D.C. area.

College Park and the University of Maryland recently signed a deal to bring bike sharing to the college community, and now a study has concluded that bike sharing would be feasible in other parts of Prince George’s County.

Specifically, the study analyzed the National Harbor neighborhood and the Anacostia Trails Heritage Area, including Colmar Manor to Greenbelt and Langley Park. It’s recommended that Capital Bikeshare operate the program, which would eventually feature 67 stations with 670 bikes.

A county planner told WTOP the Public Works and Transportation Department will now start looking at funding options and it’s hoped the new bike share program will be up and running by the spring or summer of 2018.
