WASHINGTON — A Gaithersburg, Maryland, high school student said she was the target of an attempted kidnapping near her bus stop Monday morning, according to Montgomery County police.

The Watkins Mill High School student said that around 7 a.m., as she was walking to her bus stop in the Cider Mill Apartments area in Gaithersburg, a man approached her, told her to shut up and tried to put a black bag over her head, police said. The student screamed and the man ran off.

When she got to school, she told school staff, who notified police.

The suspect is described as a black man with a goatee, mid to late 30s, around 5-feet-5-inches tall and with a medium build. At the time, he wore black pants and a black, hooded sweatshirt with a red logo on it.

Police said they’re increasing patrols around the area and urge anyone with information about this attempted kidnapping to call 240-773-5400.
