WASHINGTON — A man D.C. police believe can help them find who shot and killed a 16-year-old girl the day after Thanksgiving is being held without bond,

A judge ordered Saeve Evans preventively detained without bond during his court appearance Wednesday on the charge of unlawfully possessing a firearm.

Evans had turned himself in Tuesday night after D.C. police identified the 30-year-old convicted felon in surveillance video firing a gun multiple times in the same area in Southeast D.C. where Breyona McMillian was killed on Nov. 25.

Interim D.C. police Chief Peter Newsham said Evans would be instrumental in closing the case.

Court records show Evans served a three-year prison term a decade ago after pleading guilty to charges including assault on a police officer.

His next court date is Dec. 12 at D.C. Superior Court.
