Police: 2 DC men arrested for stolen moped, handgun

WASHINGTON — Maryland State Police arrested two men who were on a stolen moped exiting the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in Prince George’s County Sunday afternoon.

Driver Kevin J. Whittied, 34, and passenger Richard L. Whitaker, 29, both of D.C., were arrested after taking the moped onto BW Parkway, where mopeds are not permitted, according to police.

A check of the moped revealed that it had been stolen in Baltimore in October, police said.

State police then searched the two men and found a loaded handgun on the passenger, which police also discovered was stolen in D.C. from earlier in November.

The driver also had an active arrest warrant through the Charles County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear, police said.

Both men have been charged with a number of theft, handgun and traffic violations.
