HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — Current and former Maryland prison agency officials say inmates made furniture for a state prison warden without the required paperwork.

The details are in a Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services inspector general’s report obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press.

The report says the investigation last summer targeted an unidentified “senior management official.” Steven Geppi, former head of the agency’s internal investigations and intelligence-gathering unit, says the target was J. Philip Morgan, then warden at the Maryland Correctional Training Center near Hagerstown.

Morgan is now warden at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Jessup. He didn’t immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

The report says the targeted official received a food-preparation table and a food-smoker stand.
