BOWIE, Md. (AP) — Firefighters say a woman who died in a fire in her Bowie home in July has been identified.

Mark E. Brady is the spokesman for the Prince George’s County Fire Department. He said in a news release Thursday that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified the woman as 62-year-old Arlena Burney. Officials say Burney died of burns and smoke inhalation.

Brady says the July 31 fire started in the garage of the 2-story, single-family home. He says hoarding conditions impeded firefighters’ efforts to search the home and put out the blaze.

A firefighter suffered a minor injured. Damage was estimated at $200,000.

After the fire was extinguished and investigators worked to determine the cause, Burney’s body was found.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
