Virginia election marked by low turnout

WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump’s victory was marked by low turnout locally.

In Virginia, unofficial election results in the presidential contest put turnout just over 68 percent. That would be the lowest since 2000, when turnout was 68.5 percent. Before Tuesday, the 2000 election was the only one in the last 40 years with turnout in Virginia lower than 70 percent.

In Maryland, turnout appears to be about 64 percent.

In the District, turnout looks to be around 60 percent.
