Police: Brookeville man shot in head in hunting accident

WASHINGTON — A Brookeville man was shot in the head Saturday afternoon in what police have described as a hunting accident.

Montgomery County police said an 87-year-old man was in his backyard in the 3800 block of Elton Farm Road at around 12:40 p.m. when he heard a gunshot — then realized his head was bleeding.

He was taken to a hospital where doctors found a two millimeter projectile lodged in his scalp. He’s expected to be OK.

Police said the man lived near public land. Montgomery County police and Maryland Natural Resources Police searched the area near his home but did not find anyone.

Police are advising hunters to use caution and be aware of their surroundings before firing their guns.
