University of Maryland students propose fee to fund Title IX

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — The University of Maryland’s student government has proposed a fee on students to help fund the Title IX Office, which investigates sexual misconduct.

Junior A.J. Pruitt, vice president of student affairs for the Student Government Administration, tells WUSA9 this week that the average time to investigate alleged sexual misconduct was 142 days. Federal guidelines call for 60 days.

Pruitt says he and his classmates proposed the $34 fee after university officials failed to increase funding for the Title IX Office.

If the proposal is approved by a student-faculty committee, it goes to the university president and the Board of Regions for final approval.
