WASHINGTON — Seth Meyers will bring “Late Night” to Washington for four shows this week at the Warner Theatre, and he chatted with WTOP about politics, Donald Trump and the role of laughter in the presidential campaign.

In 2011, Meyers was the host of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner where Trump was an attendee. During the event he poked fun at the businessman’s rumblings about running for president: “Donald Trump has been saying he will run for president as a Republican — which is surprising, since I just assumed he was running as a joke.”

Five years later, Donald Trump is the Republican nominee for president.

Meyers said that he’s certainly been “wrong at every single turn” this past year and a half, and said that he is clearly not an expert.

What he does provide is laughter. There is a lot of pressure in this campaign, he said, and laughter is a release from that.

“Late Night with Seth Meyers” will be taped at the Warner Theatre Oct. 10 to 13.
