Police investigate death of UMBC student

BALTIMORE (AP) – Authorities are investigating the death of a student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

County police and fire personnel were called to the UMBC campus about 12:30 a.m. Sunday after a student was found unconscious.

The student, 17-year-old freshman Eric Thomas Askins of Hollywood, Maryland, was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Authorities said there were no signs of foul play.

The county police homicide unit, which investigates sudden deaths where the cause is not apparent, is investigating.
